In Which the Real Purpose of This Blog is Revealed

The following is an exerpt from my in progress short story "Paladin's End." Enjoy.

His face turned ash white as he read the message.
            “I conclude this ceremony.” The old man stated, showing much more of his age as the news took hold within his mind. Nervous and scared muttering rippled through the newly anointed knights for a third time.
Then they heard it. The crash as a stained-glass window bearing Ambriel’s image burst inward, scattering shards along the floor. Then chaos erupted.

What happened next was a blur of noise and motion. Adhemar recalled seeing the messenger receive three arrows to the chest and fall. He dimly recalled drawing his new sword and rushing to defend against the attackers. Seconds after registering these thoughts, Adhemar and his comrades were overwhelmed, his last sight that of a man in armor black as coal.
